Caput Medusae Air Plant (Tillandsia caput-medusae)

Tillandsia caput-medusae, commonly known as Caput Medusae Air Plant, is a fascinating epiphytic bromeliad native to Central America and Mexico. Its unique, curly leaves give it a distinct resemblance to the hair of the mythical Greek creature, Medusa.

This air plant requires moderate watering. You can water it by misting it thoroughly or soaking it in room temperature water for 20-30 minutes every 1-2 weeks, depending on the humidity of your environment. After watering, shake off any excess water and allow it to dry completely upside down to prevent water from collecting in its base, which can lead to rot.

Tillandsia caput-medusae thrives in bright, indirect light. Place it near a window with filtered sunlight or provide artificial light sources, such as fluorescent lights or specialized grow lights.

Being an epiphytic plant, Tillandsia caput-medusae does not require soil. It absorbs nutrients and moisture through trichomes on its leaves. Fertilize the plant once a month by misting it with a bromeliad or air plant fertilizer, diluted to half strength.

As an air plant, Tillandsia caput-medusae is non-toxic, making it safe for homes with pets and children. Its intriguing appearance and minimal care requirements make it a popular choice for terrariums, hanging gardens, or unique decorative displays, adding a touch of natural charm to any indoor space.
